Martin Kaymer targets second successive Dunhill title

Martin Kaymer claims the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is the best on the European Tour as he looks to become the first player to retain the title.

The pro-am tournament is held across St Andrews’ Old Course, as well as Carnoustie and Kingsbarns.

A high-class field includes the top three players in the world in Luke Donald, Lee Westwood and Rory McIlroy.

Kaymer said: “Very rarely do you go to a tournament this excited. This feels like home to me.”

Big names Charl Schwartzel, Dustin Johnson, Darren Clarke and Graeme McDowell also feature.

World number six Kaymer has father Horst as his playing partner, with brother Philip working as his caddie.

The German said: “A lot of the players say [U.S. Masters venue] Augusta is paradise but for me St Andrews is paradise.

“It is the home of golf, it is where I feel the most comfortable. We play on three wonderful courses so it’s probably the best week of the year on the European Tour.

“I am really looking forward to it. Very rarely do you go to a tournament this excited. This feels like home to me. When I was standing on the first tee it just felt so peaceful.”

Kaymer believes Carnoustie offers the stiffest test of the three courses being used this week.

He added: “Carnoustie is definitely the toughest. You can score well at Kingsbarns and St Andrews if the weather is OK but at Carnoustie if you shoot level-par … that’s still a good score.”

South African Schwartzel, who won his first major at Augusta earlier this year, he agrees with Kaymer’s assessment of St Andrews.

“The first, 17th and 18th … if you don’t feel something when you go down those three holes there’s something wrong with you,” Schwartzel said.

“Standing on that first tee at St Andrews gives you goose bumps every single time you step up there. It’s difficult to describe for someone who has never played it.”

How about Taylormade R9 SuperMax Irons?

This is not a tradition undercut in that it has an open pocket cavity. It is in fact a hollow cavity and face filled with foam and a plug behind the sweet area of the face. These features are used to create vibration dampening and soften the feel at impact. The back cavity is pretty good looking and does feature TM's inverted cone technology.

Features of Taylormade R9 SuperMax Irons:

1.  Traditional look and shape with reduced offset. Clean, simple lines appeal to more traditional tastes
2.  Two-piece hollow construction and Inverted Cone Technology (ICT) in the 4- through 7-irons. The large, thin faces deliver a significant increase in COR to promote faster ball speed as well as increased MOI for maximum forgiveness
3. One-piece undercut cavity with ICT in 8-iron through SW. Expands the sweet spot and lowers CG for high, yet controllable trajectories in the shorter irons

FedExCup movers: Who's up, who's down?

This week marks the midway point to the PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup. After 37 Regular season events and two Playoffs contests, the race for golf's biggest prize is still wide open.

When play resumes next week at the BMW Championship, six players will be able to unseat Deutsche Bank champion Webb Simpson for the top spot in the FedExCup standings while anyone who is competing could move inside the top five before the TOUR Championship by Coca-Cola. Remember, anyone who moves into the top 5 before the TOUR travels to East Lake will control his own FedExCup destiny.

Speaking of making moves, Chez Reavie became the first player in Playoffs history to move from outside the top 70 into the top 10 at the Deutsche Bank Championship. With his playoff runner-up finish, Reavie jumped 76 spots from No. 87 to No. 9 in the latest standings.

Ernie Els , who moved 31 spots to No. 68, became just the second player to enter the Wyndham Championship outside of the Playoffs picture, but make it to the BMW Championship (Martin Laird, 2008). Els, however, is the only player to ever accomplish this feat by saving himself from the bubble (outside the cut line to start the week) back-to-back-to-back events.

William McGirt, Greg Chalmers and Graeme McDowell were all big movers up the rankings who fell short of the 70-man cutline for the BMW Championship.

Moving the other way was Kevin Na, who entered the week at No. 57 in the standings and fell 14 spots to No. 71 -- missing the BMW championship field by just 10 points. Also being eliminated last week was Harrison Frazar, the first 500-point winner of the year to be eliminated from the Playoffs. Frazar won the FedEx St. Jude Classic in early June but had just two top-30 finishes in 17 other starts this season.

Mizuno MP-63 Irons for sale

Mizuno have studied the vibrations that are produced at impact and the affect these have on the sound and feel of an iron. Today, I will talk about a new golf clubs for sale.

The mizuno mp-63 irons is the evolution of Mizuno's most popular Tour iron. The legendary Grain Flow Forging process combines with an innovative Diamond Muscle design to create the perfect blend of feel and control in a player's cavity.

To be frank, these are the best mizuno irons I have ever owned. I use to play the MP-14 and MP-60 models. The mizuno mp-63 has the best of both worlds. Small head like a blade with the diamond cavity. When struck nicely, these irons feel like butter. I will not be trading in these 63's for many years to come. Congrats to Mizuno on a super product.

The Mizuno MP-63 irons are big improvement on the rather bland MP-62 irons they replace. This time there is a real technological improvement with the Diamond Muscle design which increases the size of the sweet area about 1cm in each direction in a head that is the same size as its predecessor.

All in all, the mp-63 iron is great and I would suggest you go give am a try, you will not be disappointed.

With new TV deal, PGA Tour ensures solid footing

NORTON, MASS. -- The key elements of the nine-year contract extension between the PGA Tour and CBS and NBC for network TV rights were the length of the deal and the flexibility to expand digital products. And the crucial component the tour brought to the bargaining table was the stability of its sponsorship base through the depths of the recession. The innovative nature of the deal gives the tour and all its TV partners the opportunity to explore new forms of media together.

The deal, announced Thursday at the Deutsche Bank Championship by commissioner Tim Finchem and via conference call with CBS Sports Chairman Sean McManus and NBC Sports Group Chairman Mark Lazarus, runs through the 2021 season. The tour's 15-year deal with Golf Channel also expires after the 2021 season. Now that NBC and Golf Channel are both owned by Comcast, there will be increased cross-programming and simultaneous programming involving those two operations.

"Over the last five years, the quality of our television partners, CBS, NBC and the Golf Channel, and their performance both in the quality of the product and their performance in the marketplace has been a home run for our players, our tournaments, our sponsors and our charities," Finchem said. "So we are absolutely delighted to announce these new long-term agreements with two terrific broadcast partners in CBS and NBC, which secure our television rights for the next decade. Our partnership with all our broadcast partners will provide continuity for our fans throughout the regular season and Playoffs."
Financial terms of the deal were not revealed, but Finchem did say that the yearly revenue the tour receives will increase. CBS and NBC will retain pretty much the same programming schedule they had under the current deal -- about 20 events for CBS and 10 for NBC -- and the deal ensures that the Players, the tour's flagship event, will remain in May at TPC Sawgrass.
