Garcia Extends Lead to 8 Shots at Castello Masters

CASTELLON, Spain (AP) — Sergio Garcia shot a 7-under 64 Saturday to extend his lead to a commanding eight shots after the third round of the Castello Masters.

He overcame a shaky start by making a 5-foot birdie putt at the seventh hole before an eagle at the eighth. The 2008 champion made five birdies on a flawless back nine for a 19-under 194 total.

"It's well set up, but it's not over. Anybody can shoot a round like I did the last couple of days," Garcia said after completing his best back-to-back rounds after a 63 Friday.
Thongchai Jaidee shot a 66 and was his closest challenger, with first-round leader Ross McGowan (69) another stroke behind.

Defending champion Matteo Manassero of Italy shot a 71 to trail Garcia by 14 strokes.
The 31-year-old Garcia hopes his familiarity with his childhood course can help him protect his lead and end an almost three-year title drought. It would be his ninth European tour win.

"It's just a special feeling. The only other time I get this is in the U.K. when I play the Ryder Cup or the British Open," he said. "The energy of the crowd is just amazing."

St. Andrews has hosted the British Open 28 times, most recently in 2010, when Louis Oosthuizen of South Africa won by seven shots.

Some Mizuno Irons for Good Handicapper

Excessive handicap golfers usually are beginners or people who have however too seriously refine their game, and they need more forgiving clubs of which be different from those people employed just by greater people. Mizuno manufactures several wonderful options for golfers with high handicaps.

Mizuno MP-69 irons

The MP-69 irons are designed with precision craftsmanship to maintain the standards MP players have come to expect.  Mizuno incorporates a newly developed 4D Muscle design to further optimize the set, resulting in a consistent sweet spot height throughout the line that creates predictable penetrating trajectory.  This 4D Technology combined with Grain Flow Forging gives players shot and ball control, and ultimate feel.  Utilizing Harmonic Impact Technology (H.I.T.), Mizuno scientifically tunes the sound of each club head to further enhance the feel.

Mizuno MX 1000 Irons

This model is designed to conform to the 2010 Condition of Competition rule. The HOT METAL face is teamed with a hollow construction and internal weighting -encouraging strikes from a wide area of the face to hold their line with minimal distance loss. The hollow construction also allows weight to be engineered deep within the head for a naturally high trajectory – enabling the use of stronger lofts for even greater distance.

Mizuno MP-68 Irons

The new Mizuno MP-68 Blade moves away from the cut muscle design that the MP-67 had and resembles the MP-37 with the muscle back developing from the toe area. The muscle back lines and edges however are smoother on the MP-68 than the MP-37 and some in Japan have said it reminds them of the classic MP-14 with its curved muscle back and sharp toe. Mizuno has also followed suit with its 2009 design guidlines by placing the running bird logo on the sole and the model MP-68 with new MP logo in the toe corner.

Martin Kaymer targets second successive Dunhill title

Martin Kaymer claims the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship is the best on the European Tour as he looks to become the first player to retain the title.

The pro-am tournament is held across St Andrews’ Old Course, as well as Carnoustie and Kingsbarns.

A high-class field includes the top three players in the world in Luke Donald, Lee Westwood and Rory McIlroy.

Kaymer said: “Very rarely do you go to a tournament this excited. This feels like home to me.”

Big names Charl Schwartzel, Dustin Johnson, Darren Clarke and Graeme McDowell also feature.

World number six Kaymer has father Horst as his playing partner, with brother Philip working as his caddie.

The German said: “A lot of the players say [U.S. Masters venue] Augusta is paradise but for me St Andrews is paradise.

“It is the home of golf, it is where I feel the most comfortable. We play on three wonderful courses so it’s probably the best week of the year on the European Tour.

“I am really looking forward to it. Very rarely do you go to a tournament this excited. This feels like home to me. When I was standing on the first tee it just felt so peaceful.”

Kaymer believes Carnoustie offers the stiffest test of the three courses being used this week.

He added: “Carnoustie is definitely the toughest. You can score well at Kingsbarns and St Andrews if the weather is OK but at Carnoustie if you shoot level-par … that’s still a good score.”

South African Schwartzel, who won his first major at Augusta earlier this year, he agrees with Kaymer’s assessment of St Andrews.

“The first, 17th and 18th … if you don’t feel something when you go down those three holes there’s something wrong with you,” Schwartzel said.

“Standing on that first tee at St Andrews gives you goose bumps every single time you step up there. It’s difficult to describe for someone who has never played it.”

How about Taylormade R9 SuperMax Irons?

This is not a tradition undercut in that it has an open pocket cavity. It is in fact a hollow cavity and face filled with foam and a plug behind the sweet area of the face. These features are used to create vibration dampening and soften the feel at impact. The back cavity is pretty good looking and does feature TM's inverted cone technology.

Features of Taylormade R9 SuperMax Irons:

1.  Traditional look and shape with reduced offset. Clean, simple lines appeal to more traditional tastes
2.  Two-piece hollow construction and Inverted Cone Technology (ICT) in the 4- through 7-irons. The large, thin faces deliver a significant increase in COR to promote faster ball speed as well as increased MOI for maximum forgiveness
3. One-piece undercut cavity with ICT in 8-iron through SW. Expands the sweet spot and lowers CG for high, yet controllable trajectories in the shorter irons
